Fraa Lio

First Appearance and Context

Fraa Lio is introduced as a peer within a Decenarian math alongside Fraa Erasmas, seen in communal settings and in the Mynster during rites leading up to and including Apert. He has been selected for the four‑person winding team that tends the great clock at Provener.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

• Serves on the clock‑winding team during Provener, pushing one of the capstan poles alongside peers such as Fraa Jesry.
• Carries out practical chores around the concent; after a missed winding and a later meadow‑fire mishap with Jesry, he accepted penances assigned by the Warden Regulant.
• Participates in instruction under senior teachers; during a rigorous review of the iconographies led by Grandsuur Tamura, he offered succinct observations noted by the class.
• During the present opening, he and Fraa Arsibalt were attacked outside the walls by a group that circled them in a vehicle; Lio sustained visible injuries and later answered questions from a warden before returning to help with Provener.
• Perfected a new wrap for his cowl so that it could not be yanked down to blind him; he and peers tried, without success, to pull it over his face.
• Sought chances to test his gear outside the walls; later accompanied acquaintances to an abandoned quarry to fire projectile weapons at his bolt and sphere. Bullets passed through the bolt’s weave leaving stretchable gaps, broad‑headed arrows cut fibers and left irreparable holes, and the sphere deformed to blunt and trail the impact. His verdict was that the sphere could help against gunfire by reducing fragmentation and enabling the bullet to be drawn back out.
• During the opening, he was seen cavorting around a statue of Saunt Froga on the meadow, flinging the end of his bolt over the statue’s head and snapping it back like a whip while visitors watched and recorded.

Lio is solidly built and sometimes nicknamed "Thistlehead." He is physically demonstrative—capable of unbalancing a hooded peer with a deft tug—and quick to steady a friend when needed. He habitually reaches for terms from Vale-Lore ("vlor") to frame situations, though he judged that such lore proved “useless” in the face of the street attack. After that assault, he bore a puffy, bleeding lip and bruising around one eye yet still pushed hard at Provener. He shows a tinkerer’s streak and pride in practical fixes (e.g., improving his wrap), and he is willing to subject his own gear to hard empirical tests.

Current Status/Location

Active among the Tenners in a Decenarian math. Present in the Mynster during the current opening and engaged in communal duties including clock winding and lessons. He has also spent time outside the walls during the opening, trying out protective wraps and testing his bolt and sphere under live fire, and remains active in regular duties.
