Collected

First Appearance and Context

During the closing festivities of Apert, newcomers are presented before the high table and formally placed. In this setting, “Collected” is used for infants (“foundlings”) and older “youngsters” being admitted directly from extramuros into mathic care.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

“Collected” designates entrants who come in through Collection rather than by graduating from the Unarian path. A Collected person becomes an Avout under the Discipline once admitted. The status spans different ages and placements: a sickly infant might remain in the Unarian Math for closer medical oversight; infants with umbilical stumps are routed to the Millenarian Math after a brief custodial interval among the Centenarians (also called the Hundreders); older children may be passed directly to the Centenarians; others may begin among The One-offs or be assigned straight to the host math, with prospects to progress later.

Relationships

Closely tied to Collection as the intake channel; most usages occur around Apert when intakes and placements are announced. Routing for Collected entrants interacts with Unarian, Centenarian (Hundreder), and Millenarian communities, as well as the One-offs for initial placement.

Descriptions/Characteristics

The word is commonly used as a verb or predicate adjective (e.g., “to be Collected”). The handover is solemnized by a Sæcular official—typically the highest-ranking Panjandrum present—who speaks oaths and rings a bell to mark the moment when newcomers pass from Sæcular to mathic jurisdiction and responsibility.

Current Status/Location

In use during the present opening: groups of foundlings and youngsters are being Collected and assigned to appropriate maths under the formal handover described above.

Summary:

A term for a person brought directly from the extramuros world into a math via the practice of Collection, typically during Apert. It may refer to foundlings or older youngsters who are formally handed over to mathic care.
