Edharian Order

First Appearance and Context

Avout speak of choosing or "joining the Edharians" as a formal order choice. At this concent the crag‑dwelling Thousanders are all identified as members of the Edharian Order; locally, some speakers also use "Edharians" informally for an active theorics circle in the Decenarian community. Formal rites explicitly name a Centenarian Chapter of the Order of Saunt Edhar, indicating that chapters within the order align to cohort.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

  • After the Reconstitution, early members of the order came to the river bend and undertook major praxic works: clearing a ramp of weak rock with explosives and water‑jet cutters, moving spoil to the perimeter to fashion the walls of the Concent of Saunt Edhar, and quarrying sound stone from the crag in slabs and prisms.
  • The first Thousanders cut a narrow, meandering stair up the crag, moved onto its summit, and built their own walls and towers there; for centuries afterward the valley below remained a rubble field from these works.
  • The avout later carved elements of the Mynster from the strewn boulders; a few remain in the meadow as decoration and as stock for stonecutters who still refine gargoyles and finials.
  • After the Third Sack, two‑thirds of the Edharians were relocated to other concents to make room at the home concent for a New Circle chapter and a Reformed Old Faanite chapter.
  • Eliger and intake: The order inducts new avout during Eliger. Large intakes—more than about ten or a dozen at the expense of other orders—are said to cause friction within the community; during the same period described here, several new members chose the Edharians.

Relationships

  • Namesake: Saunt Edhar.
  • Stated lineage: Saunt Halikaarn.
  • Local usage: "Edharians" can also denote a working circle associated with Fraa Orolo (distinct from the formal order sense).
  • Often mentioned alongside other choices an avout might consider at Eliger, such as the Order of the New Circle.
  • Mother‑house and chapters: Edharian chapters in other concents look to the Concent of Saunt Edhar as their mother; chapter houses commonly display images of the Mynster. Within the order, a Centenarian Chapter is explicitly referenced in formal Evocation (Voco).

Descriptions/Characteristics

No distinctive dress, rites, or internal offices have been described in detail. In local discussion, Edharians are associated with affirming the Hylaean Theoric World in the Halikaarn–Evenedric–Edhar line, contrasted with Procian/Faanian tendencies; members may be reticent to state such views directly.

Current Status/Location

Active within the concent. The Thousanders on the crag are identified as Edharians; boulders from early quarrying still dot the meadow while ongoing stonework continues on ornaments for the hall. During the same period, a Voco was heard naming a Centenarian, and Eliger services continued to bring in new members.

Summary:

A recognized mathic order named for Saunt Edhar. At this concent the Thousanders belong to it and it traces its tradition to Saunt Halikaarn; local history credits early members, after the Reconstitution, with shaping the crag and providing stone for the concent’s walls and the Mynster.
