Fendant Court

Fendant Court is a named level within the Mynster at the Concent of Saunt Edhar, associated by name and usage with the Warden Fendant. It lies above the Regulant court and below the high works that lead toward the starhenge.

First Appearance and Context

The court is first described from within the Mynster’s upper works during a period of penance and restricted movement. A fraa, briefly free to move while the hall below was occupied, “took the stairs up through the Fendant court three at a time” and later returned the same way, passing down from Fendant Court into the Regulant court. The court is reached by interior stairs used by avout and hierarchs moving between the lower galleries, the Fendant level, and the higher stairs that climb toward the roof.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

  • Serves as the Warden Fendant’s level within the Mynster: members of the Warden Fendant’s staff ascend to this balcony and use its western side as a vantage over the exterior when noteworthy activity occurs beyond the walls.
  • Functions as a throughway between the inward‑facing Regulant court below and the stairways that continue upward toward the upper works and the Starhenge, making it part of the route between discipline and outward watch.
  • Adjoins or overlooks areas associated with the Warden Fendant’s outward watch, including a high overhang elsewhere named Warden Fendant's Ledge.

Relationships

  • Office association: closely tied to the Warden Fendant and his staff, who maintain the outward watch from the Mynster’s heights.
  • Vertical neighbors: immediately above the Regulant court (the domain of the Warden Regulant) and on the approach to the chronochasm and rooftop.
  • Building context: part of the upper galleries of the Mynster within the Concent of Saunt Edhar.

Descriptions/Characteristics

  • Layout and circulation: a balcony level with inner walkways and a west side mentioned explicitly; narrow arches open onto ledges and periphery passages. From here, stairs continue both upward and downward.
  • Ornaments and memorials: the level is heavily furnished with busts and statues of past figures. Notably, a life‑sized bronze of Amnectrus—named as a Warden Fendant at the time of the Third Sack—shows him kneeling behind a parapet and sighting along a long rifle. The pedestal doubles as his sarcophagus; the rifle and the pool of spent cartridge cases are described as actual relics.

Current Status/Location

Active and trafficked. Hierarchs on the Warden Fendant’s staff use the court routinely, and it remains a traveled passage between the Regulant level and the stairs that lead onward toward the upper works and the starhenge.
