First Appearance and Context

Jesry is introduced among the Tenners at the Concent of Saunt Edhar during the open days of Apert, taking part in Provener and early duties around the Mynster. He accompanies a peer outside the walls during the opening and returns to routine work inside the concent.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

• Serves on the clock‑winding team in the Mynster and contributes practical calculations described as orbital mechanics for Fraa Orolo.
• During the post‑Apert selection rite of Eliger, his name is called and he is inducted into the Edharian Chapter.
• Subsequently, he is reported working with Orolo on naked‑eye observations from the meadow.
• Present during a Refectory discussion on telescope orientation and polar orbits; interjects "Compass needles?" when peers list polar convergences, and later questions Barb about conic sections.
• Joins a refectory dialog about worrying and plausibility, arguing that opening the door to incoherent hypotheticals yields a profusion of equally invalid scenarios the mind rejects; he also offers precise combinatorial corrections during the exchange.
• Before the starhenge was closed, Orolo set him to compute orbital parameters from givens extracted to photomnemonic tablets; Jesry was not shown the source images. From memory afterward, he inferred the targets were in Arbre‑centered orbits and probably more than one object.
• In the aftermath of the aut of Anathem, he is the first among his cohort to say the object(s) are artificial (human‑made); he then leads Fraa Tavener to review research arguing against non‑human origins.

He coined “the creature with two backs” to describe Ala and Tulia’s habit of debriefing lectures together.
