Onali

First Appearance and Context

Onali is introduced at the Concent of Saunt Edhar during Apert. She first appears incognito as a visitor touring the Hylaean Way, then later the same day is seen in the chancel at Provener wearing the purple robes of the Inquisition, where she is identified—together with a male colleague, Varax—as one of two Inquisitors visiting the concent.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

• Inquisitor affiliated with the Inquisition. During the tour, while still presenting as an ordinary visitor, she participates in a discussion about Deät and Hylaea and then reframes the exchange by noting recent talk about the Warden of Heaven. Later she appears formally in the Mynster as one of the visiting Inquisitors.
• Present in the Mynster during a Voco aut: seen standing in the chancel alongside Varax; afterward, at the plaza before the Day Gate, she and Varax helped escort Fraa Paphlagon into an aerocraft that lifted off and departed to the west.
• During the closing feast of Apert known as Tenth Night, Onali is seated at the high table flanking the Primate; her presence alongside Varax signals active oversight of proceedings.
• Observers within the concent speculate that the timing of the Inquisitors’ arrival may have coincided with a wider directive to close access to rooftop instruments; this inference is recorded in-narrative and not confirmed.

Relationships

• Varax: Traveling colleague and fellow Inquisitor; they are recognized together in the chancel and later depart together.
• Fraa Paphlagon: After his Evocation, she and Varax assisted him into the aerocraft that departed from the plaza before the Day Gate.

Descriptions/Characteristics

• Female; described as being in her fifth decade of life. While incognito she dresses for commerce and wears a lanyarded flasher, and later appears in purple Inquisitorial robes. In formal settings she is identifiable by a distinctive hat associated with visiting Inquisitors. Her tone during the tour is moderating and diplomatic, smoothing an increasingly pointed dialog.

Current Status/Location

After being present during the Voco aut, Onali was seen departing the concent by aerocraft with Varax and Fraa Paphlagon. Her subsequent whereabouts and mission have not been stated.
