Order of the New Circle

First Appearance and Context

The Order of the New Circle is cited among avout as a coeval current with the Reformed Old Faanians. It is later named in full when Fraa Corlandin speaks with a Tenner in the Refectory ahead of Eliger. In local recollection at Saunt Edhar, after the Third Sack many Edharians were relocated to make room for a New Circle and a Reformed Old Faanite chapter. In the period following the close of Apert, repeated Eliger auts add several members from the Tenner cohort to the New Circle, including Ala and Lio.

The Order of the New Circle is a recognized order within the Concent of Saunt Edhar. It recruits Tenners who choose it at Eliger and maintains the New Circle Chapter House in‑concent. In everyday speech avout refer to it simply as “the New Circle.” Membership is often associated—by practice and expectation rather than by stated rule—with hierarch responsibilities; for example, after joining, a new member begins an internship in the Warden Fendant’s court. New Circle members are also seen organizing communal participation as Apert closes (for example, rehearsing a carol for the evening gathering), and they sometimes address visitors on behalf of the order during public meals. In the same period, despite a standing invitation from the Reformed Old Faanians to all avout, New Circle members (and Edharians) were rarely seen helping at Shuf’s Dowment, a reluctance attributed to inter‑order rivalry and current tensions.

In discussion of ideas, some in the order treat the Hylaean Theoric World as superstition; avout who find that concept meaningful may keep such talk private in mixed company.
