Suur Ala

First Appearance and Context

Suur Ala is first observed at the Concent of Saunt Edhar, working alongside Tulia on practical chores near the Refectory before daily duties. Within her Tenner cohort she quickly emerges as a capable organizer on bell teams and in crowded moments.

Roles and Actions

• Bell work and mentoring: Ala helps assemble and rehearse ringers, and later spends extended time in the Mynster’s lower belfry with Tulia maintaining mechanisms, practicing unfamiliar changes, and passing techniques to younger girls.
• Discreet observation: With Tulia, she arranged a pinhole projection in a maintenance room beneath the carillon to view the sun safely. When Fraa Erasmas joined them, they recorded a sequence of brief blue-white “sparks” appearing near and across the projected solar disk, pricking pinholes to mark each sighting and outline the disk for reference. The trio inferred a maneuvering object in space from the changing line of points; Erasmas compared the color to a plasma cutter’s light. Their plan to follow up was overtaken by events the same day.
• Evocation: During a ringing of Voco, Ala’s name was called and she departed with the Evoked under the authority of the Sæcular Power.

Relationships and Affiliations

• New Circle: After Eliger, Ala chose the Order of the New Circle.
• Tulia: Close working partner in chores, bell work, and the pinhole observation; they often operate as a practical pair. See Tulia.
• Fraa Erasmas: Their interactions intensify around the time of the pinhole observation; the two agreed to declare an Etrevanean liaison before witnesses, but the Voco intervened before any aut could be entered in the Chronicle. See Fraa Erasmas.

Description

Forthright, brisk, and decisive. Small and bony with a round head, large eyes, a delicate sharp nose, and a wide mouth; she keeps her hair cropped short. Her manner shifts easily from command to collaboration when a practical path is clear.

Current Status/Location

Evoked during Voco and departed the concent under escort. Her subsequent whereabouts are outside the community’s view.
