Fraa Paphlagon

First Appearance and Context

Fraa Paphlagon is identified during Paphlagon's Evocation in the Mynster at the Concent of Saunt Edhar. He is named as of the Centenarian chapter of the Edharian Order and answers the litany before departing the chancel.

Affiliations and Relationships

  • Affiliation: the Centenarians within the Edharian chapter at Saunt Edhar.
  • Teacher of Fraa Orolo; among peers he is credited with having taught Orolo “half of what he knew.” Alongside Estemard, he is cited as one of Orolo’s two teachers.
  • Possible acquaintance: as inferred from an observer’s speculation while traveling extramuros, Fraa Carmolathu may be a friend of Paphlagon. This is conjecture and not confirmed in-text.

Important Actions

  • Publicly Evoked through Voco and escorted from the Mynster by the Inquisition to an aerocraft waiting beyond the Day Gate; he then departs extramuros.
  • Accounts within the concent recall that, years before his Evocation, he entered the Upper Labyrinth and was not seen again by certain colleagues until the night of his call.
  • Community interpretations: some avout link his Evocation to metatheoretical work and/or to a conjectured program involving study of a craft in orbit; these remain unconfirmed interpretations rather than established fact.

Descriptions and Characteristics

At the moment of his Evocation, witnesses recall that he looked upward before answering the call, proceeded with composure through the litany, then cast off chord and bolt and stood holding his bolt while gazing up through the well—an image that fixed itself in community memory.

Current Status/Location

Unknown after departure. Last seen leaving Saunt Edhar under escort by Inquisition officials aboard an aerocraft.
