Overview

Ganelial Crade is an extramuros driver from the Deolater community at Samble who joins a small group of avout detouring to Bly’s Butte. He presents as a member of the local Deolaters and speaks Orth; he later continues with the travelers into the mountains to help search for Orolo, often taking point on routes and camp logistics.

Appearance and Traits

• Slender, clean-shaven, and easily taken for younger than his fourth decade.
• Speaks Orth well enough to converse directly with avout, despite a rough accent.
• Inclined to take the lead when vehicles are involved; described as happiest and easiest to be around when given concrete tasks. In camp he fusses over details and instructs others on practical matters (packing bedrolls, tending the stove).

Roles and Actions

• At Samble, parks his open-back fetch behind the ark during a loud service and later drives the road between the village and the summit, carrying travelers down from the butte after being asked to wait.
• Reappears when the company stocks up for cold weather, arriving with Sammann to join the push north. He helps procure fuel, food, and clothing and produces an ammunition can full of coins; the narrator infers he likely drew funds from his community.
• Reinstalls a three-wheeler in the back of his fetch, shifting bulky supplies into Cord’s vehicle.
• Plans to make inquiries among co-religionists along the route while Sammann works his instruments.
• Leads the two-vehicle convoy into the foothills and mountains, choosing a dirt track through fuel-tree plantations and guiding the group to a quiet tarn campsite. On the road and in camp he takes charge of small but constant details and keeps the party moving.
