Collection

First appearance and context

The term is used when planning upcoming intake to a Decenarian community around Apert. In that discussion, some members of the current cohort were described as having been Collected—brought straight into the math from extramuros—while others entered after time in the Unarian math. Most graduation happens alongside Apert, and the remaining intake is made up by Collection.

Definition and rationale

Collection is the process of admitting new avout directly from extramuros into a math. It is distinct from graduation out of the Unarian math into the Decenarian math. Collection customarily occurs during Apert. To keep numbers up, intake may also include searching hospitals and shelters for abandoned newborns in addition to Collection.

Relationships and references

  • Complements graduation from the Unarian community; together they supply the Decenarian cohort at Apert.
  • Used to balance intake when target headcounts are not met by graduates alone (e.g., adding to a cohort aiming to maintain a nominal strength).

Current status

Active as of the present narrative: Collection is expected to occur at the forthcoming Apert alongside graduation, with individuals drawn directly from extramuros and, where needed, infants taken in from outside institutions.

Summary:

A mathic practice for bringing people directly from the extramuros world into a math to become avout, typically conducted during Apert. It complements graduation from the Unarian math to maintain community numbers.
