Mithra

Mithra is one of the co‑named telescopes forming the large instrument often referred to collectively as “M & M,” mounted on the Starhenge above the central tower at the Concent of Saunt Edhar.

First Appearance and Context

During a period when access to the roof was tightly controlled, an avout considered aiming Mithra and its counterpart Mylax directly at a fast‑moving object in the sky. The attempt was deferred because precise orbital information was lacking and because slewing the big telescope would have been conspicuous. Instead, wide‑field recording was initiated using Clesthyra's Eye to capture data to a photomnemonic tablet for later analysis.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

  • Targeted observation: Mithra is used for pointed, high‑magnification observations as part of the co‑named Telescope of Saunts Mithra and Mylax.
  • Clock‑coupled mechanics: The instrument is mechanically driven from the tower’s works and is scheduled for use when the roof is available.
  • Complement to all‑sky coverage: Continuous, whole‑sky recording is handled by Clesthyra’s Eye, while Mithra and Mylax are aimed at specific fields.

Relationships

Descriptions/Characteristics

  • Installation: Housed under one of the starhenge’s twin domes for the co‑named instrument.
  • Operation: Aimable on driven axes and prepared in advance for conditions; moving it draws notice when the roof is occupied.
  • Usage notes: Effective for targeted imaging of specific regions; complementary to the fixed all‑sky device for detecting transients.

Current Status/Location

Installed and active on the starhenge above the central tower at the Concent of Saunt Edhar; access and operation follow scheduled availability of the roof under the Discipline.

Summary:

Mithra is one of the two large, clock‑coupled telescopes on the Starhenge atop the Praesidium at the Concent of Saunt Edhar. It forms part of the co‑named Telescope of Saunts Mithra and Mylax used for targeted observations.
