Overview

Sammann is an Ita technician from the Concent of Saunt Edhar. He travels extramuros with an avout Peregrin party, providing practical skills and networked research while the group tries to relocate Fraa Orolo. In public spaces he keeps a low profile and a precise, sometimes curt, manner; among companions he often plays devil's advocate and explains how large-network information must be filtered. In the far north he also sets clear, practical rules for travel safety and clandestine crossings. In a northern port, he helped coordinate vehicles during a chaotic extraction and later shared a leaked space recording with a companion.

Appearance and Traits

• Long beard and hair; when dressed in ordinary extramuros clothes he still stands out, and his bone structure marks him as ethnically distinct to locals.
• Methodical, technically fluent, and risk-aware. Works from a handheld terminal (jeejah), favoring structured searches over speculation and frequently checking source quality.
• Dry humor and a taste for debate; will press companions' assumptions to test their reasoning. Calm under pressure and task-focused rather than emotive when others are injured.

Roles and Actions

• Rooftop access and tablet handling (prior): on instruction, retrieved a photomnemonic tablet from The Telescope of Saunts Mithra and Mylax and stated he kept a personal copy before delivering the original.
• Research at a refueling stop near Norslof: phototyped images brought by a companion and used a syntactic program via the Reticulum to match them to a live feed, locating a massive, orderly excavation on the island of Ecba. Zoomed views showed a walled cloister with a tower around a spiraling excavation that companions identified with the buried Temple of Orithena; reports he consulted attribute the dig's founding to Edharian maths.
• Route-finding and logistics: studies maps and posted road logs to chart a course north, estimates distances, and helps pace the group's travel toward the sledge port at Eighty-three North.

• Mahsht extraction and coordination: when a companion was attacked by a hostile crowd in Old Mahsht, Sammann fed route and rendezvous instructions over earphones and drove a fetch to regroup with allies, including avout from Ringing Vale (Math). The group consolidated onto two fetches and a three-wheeler and withdrew to a riverside area.
• Evidence disposal: at the riverside stop, on his prompt, a rifle was thrown into the river before constables arrived.
• Leaked space recording analysis: later, riding south in a fetch, he showed a leaked speely captured from a space capsule. He explained technical cues such as window outgassing, the alien craft's pusher-plate orientation toward the capsule, a robotic grappler taking aboard a lone envoy referred to as the Warden of Heaven, and the loss of voice/data due to jamming. In the speely's later segment, the capsule recovers the Warden's body after ejection from a small port on the icosahedral craft (nicknamed the "Hedron" by others). Sammann notes that officials curtailed the Reticulum to limit the speely's spread and uses "Geometers" as a working label for the visitors. Cause of death is left ambiguous in the conversation.

After regrouping in Old Mahsht and seeing the Valers depart by coach, Sammann departs south in a fetch with Cord, Yulassetar Crade, and Ganelial Crade, continuing to serve as driver, navigator, and information handler.
