Scriptorium

The Scriptorium is a quiet workroom devoted to the copying of books and manuscripts within the math. It is entered beneath a stone arch and is distinguished by a rich, lingering smell of ink that seems embedded in its furnishings from long use. It has been observed in use by an elderly fraa working alongside two fids, carefully copying out texts.

At the far end of the room, a smaller doorway leads directly to the Old Library, one of the original buildings that opens onto the Cloister. The stone floor beyond is described as far older than that of the New Library, underscoring the antiquity of this part of the complex.

Situated off the Cloister among other key buildings—including the Old Library, the Refectory, and nearby chalk halls—the Scriptorium functions as a focused, contemplative space insulated from distractions.

Current status: Active and in use as a manuscript-copying space; accessible from the Cloister via a stone arch, with internal access to the Old Library.
