Day Gate

Overview

The Day Gate is the north-facing, clock-coupled portal of the Concent of Saunt Edhar, entering the Mynster's north nave. Just inside the threshold is a narthex beneath the Great Orrery; outside, a plaza and straight causeway cross a pond toward the burgers' town. The gate is used for controlled ingress during openings and for organized departures under orders.

Notable Features

  • Clock-coupled mechanism that follows the great clock's day-night rhythm; by order, it can be opened outside the usual schedule.
  • Narthex immediately inside the gate provides space to marshal small groups beneath the orrery.
  • Pond with twin fountains and a straight causeway forming a direct approach from the town.

Associations

  • Member of the timed portal family alongside the Year Gate and Decade Gate. Accounts of openings describe water routed from the pond outside the Day Gate to power the interval gates' mechanisms.
  • Market outside the gate: recordings of the concent's music are sold there alongside honey and mead produced by the concent.

Recent Activity

  • During a large, solemn calling, departures were staged here in staggered groups after instructions were given in the narthex.
  • Mentioned as the gate through which Estemard departed when he left the math.

Status / Access

Active and in regular use as the concent's principal day-facing portal. It normally opens and closes with the clock; outside this cadence, access may be authorized by order.
