Olde Market

First Appearance and Context

As avout departed through the Day Gate of the Concent of Saunt Edhar and crossed into the burgers’ town, the site of the Olde Market is described. The former town market had been rebranded and rebuilt here; nearby casinos, once meant to capture visitor traffic to the market and to the concent, looked dirty and forlorn.

Description and Location

The Olde Market occupies the former market site in the town just outside the walls, reached by the straight causeway from the gate plaza. In current use it is a tourist‑style market devoted to selling T‑shirts and other items depicting the demolished original market. It lies extramuros of the concent within the surrounding civic settlement of the Extramuros world.

Structures and Features

  • Rebuilt “Olde Market” stalls focused on souvenir goods themed on the former market.
  • A ring of casinos around the site, some with basement dance halls; at present they appear underused and shabby.
  • Proximity to the gate plaza, fountain‑flanked pond, and causeway leading back to the concent.

Relationships and Affiliations

  • Tied economically and geographically to the Concent of Saunt Edhar; the surrounding casinos hoped to serve visitors to the market or to the concent.
  • Contrasted with the “New Market” on the edge of town, where the original stallholders relocated after the old market was cleared.
  • Part of the burgers’ town and its commerce among Burgers and other townspeople.

Current Status

Quiet at the time described. The casinos around it were subdued—sometimes playing music from basement dance halls at night—but otherwise looked neglected; the market area functioned as a through‑space for travelers leaving the concent.

Summary:

A redeveloped marketplace area in the burgers’ town outside the Concent of Saunt Edhar. Authorities razed the original market, renamed the site the Olde Market, and installed souvenir‑oriented stalls; casinos built around it now appear quiet and shabby.
