Tulia

Overview

Tulia is a young Tenner (ten-year cycle) suur (honorific) at the Concent of Saunt Edhar (monastic community), noted for pragmatic focus and quiet steadiness. She often balances practical duties with discreet study alongside close peers.

Appearance and Traits

Erasmas recalls that Tulia can talk sense into a distressed person "effortlessly," reinforcing her reputation for calm, reassuring presence and steady practical judgment. At Tredegarh she is physically quick and energetic (she outruns Erasmas to an urgent appointment), keeps humor under pressure, and—by Erasmas’s reading—meets Orolo’s death with pride in his action and relief at Erasmas’s survival.

Roles and Actions

• Bell and observing work: Assists with bell responsibilities and helped set up a safe pinhole projection to log brief blue "sparks" near the sun for later review.
• Study and coordination: Works smoothly within small circles to compare notes and keep tasks moving; when needed, offers clear, succinct guidance to peers.
• Guide and counsel at Tredegarh: Personally fetches Erasmas to Inbrase (Convox induction rite) and, before a Plenary (all-hands assembly), cautions him not to play politics and to be straightforward.
• Orientation help: On the way to the ceremony, she directs him to the correct entrance and cohort and urges haste so the larger assembly is not delayed.

Recent Activity

• Mass Evocation (official summoning): During the Six-Fold Voco (mass calling), Tulia is among those called to go extramuros (outside the walls) and converge on a designated assembly.
• Convox presence: At the Concent of Saunt Tredegarh under the Convox (joint assembly), she notes that Inbrase is being held weekly for many new arrivals from several maths and helps keep her cohort on time.
• Parting/concern: When Erasmas left Saunt Edhar earlier, he recalls seeing Tulia look shocked; he interprets this as concern for Ala.

Notes

• Erasmas refers back to a prior conversation with Tulia before the event at Eliger about dividing focus (she would handle the Political end so that he could concentrate on pure study). She echoes this at Tredegarh by advising him to tell the truth and avoid stratagems.
