River Chontus

River Chontus is the river that runs by the Concent of Saunt Edhar, defining the meadow along its near bank. On the opposite bank rises Shuf’s Dowment.

First appearance and context

Avout observe the river alongside the concent’s meadow, where the ground near the bank shows how the water shapes the edge of the grassland.

Description

  • The meadow close to the bank is carpeted with clover that thins toward the sandy edge, giving way to coarser, woody growth (including slashberry) and hardy greenery that endures cold.
  • In winter, the river can be heard burbling over ice‑shoals; the banks and brush remain partially green even through hard frosts.

Notable role

  • Fraa Lio proposes using the riverbank and meadow as a living, slow‑motion “battlefield” for a seasonal garden demonstration that reenacts the Battle of Trantae. In this plan, fast‑creeping vines advance like light cavalry from the river edge, while tougher woody plants hold gains like infantry, with the river serving as the notional line from which “bridgeheads” form.
Summary:

A river flowing past the Concent of Saunt Edhar. Shuf’s Dowment stands on its far bank. The river serves as a natural boundary in a planned botanical reenactment of the Battle of Trantae.
