Metatheorics

Metatheorics is the self‑examination of theorics: inquiry into its aims, limits, methods, and the status of the objects it studies. Rather than solving a particular technical problem, it asks what makes the solutions meaningful and how abstract frameworks bear on the world.

First appearance and context

The term is used in a small dinner‑and‑dialog devoted to the “Plurality of Worlds,” where a host appeals to “pure metatheorics” as worthy of support from the Sæcular Power. During the same sitting, a participant labels a “rather profound question of metatheorics” when considering the reality of certain abstract descriptions; another outside voice voices impatience with “metatheorics,” while others insist the issues are central to the work. Themes and relationships

• Realness and worldtracks: Within the language of Hemn Spaces, speakers ask what (if anything) imbues one continuous path through configuration space with “realness” compared to other mathematically valid paths. This is presented explicitly as a question of metatheorics.
