fetch

Overview

A fetch is a motorized ground vehicle used outside the maths to transport passengers and goods. It is common in civilian travel and logistics and can be pressed into service for ad hoc group movement in crowded port districts such as Mahsht.

Description and Use

  • Everyday transport and load‑carrier: travelers ride in the cab while stowage in back holds packs and supplies; guides keep gear ready to hand for quick redeployment.
  • Temporary shelter in crowded cities: when proper lodgings are unavailable, people are described sleeping in mobes and fetches.
  • Capacity and flexibility: in emergencies, large numbers can be packed aboard; riders have even linked elbows on the roof of a fetch to avoid falling off while getting clear of danger. Small three‑wheelers sometimes accompany fetches to augment capacity.
  • Street egress and shuttle: amid congestion, fetches can maneuver through narrow lanes to extract people from hostile scenes and move them to safer staging areas.

Provenance/Ownership

  • Civilian owners include Yulassetar Crade and Ganelial Crade, who coordinate logistics and stow equipment in their fetches. In Old Mahsht, Cord and Sammann drove Yul’s and Gnel’s fetches, respectively, during a rapid pickup and departure.
  • Fetches also appear alongside larger convoy traffic moving to and from northern ports, handling general transport and errands.

Notable Mentions

  • In Old Mahsht during a period of displacement, crowds are described sleeping in mobes and fetches for lack of lodging.
  • During a violent street incident near the canal, civilian drivers used Yul’s and Gnel’s fetches to collect a large group and depart at speed; some passengers rode on the roof of Yul’s fetch.
  • After clearing the square, the party drove the fetches to a riverside picnic ground where first aid was administered before onward travel.
