First Appearance and Context

The name “Perelithian” is recorded in reference accounts as deriving from the celebrated pairing of Saunt Per and Saunt Elith. In later periods, some concents recognized this liaison type within the framework of the Discipline, which enumerates liaison forms and their rules.

Definition and Standing

A Perelithian Liaison is a permanent union between one Fraa and one Suur. Within the Concent of Saunt Edhar, it is the most serious recognized liaison and is treated as equivalent to marriage. In general mathic usage, it is a specific kind of Liaison governed by the Discipline and local customs.

Procedures and Publication

Per mathic practice at Saunt Edhar, liaisons are to be announced (“published”) when formed and when dissolved, both to curb gossip and to formalize obligations. Publication occurs by a witnessed aut in which the participants declare their liaison; the fact is then entered in the Chronicle. Oversight and enforcement of sanctioned forms fall under the Inquisition where applicable.

Comparisons and Related Types

Accounts distinguish multiple liaison types of varying seriousness. At Saunt Edhar, Tivian is the least serious, Etrevanean lies between, and Perelithian is the most serious. Other named types exist in mathic lore, including episodic forms that meet only during decennial openings.

Current Status

Described as sanctioned in some concents and explicitly recognized at Saunt Edhar as the most serious, marriage‑equivalent liaison. As with other sanctioned forms, its rules and recognition depend on the Discipline observed by a given concent.
