Counter-Bazians

Overview

The counter-Bazians are described as Deolaters who orient themselves in opposition to Bazian doctrine and authority. In the settlement of Samble, a local Counter-Bazian Ark stands on the village green and draws most townspeople to its lively services.

Purpose and Structure

Accounts emphasize distrust of priests and other middlemen, encouraging adherents to read scripture for themselves. In especially fervent, isolated sects, some members are said to learn Orth so they need not rely on translations. Organization appears to take the form of local arks (congregations) rather than a clearly described hierarchy.

Practices

  • Services characterized by loud, enthusiastic singing and a sky-altar architecture at the ark.
  • Communal “picnic” on the green when weather permits, immediately following services.
  • The ark functions as a community hub; during one visit, nearly the entire town gathered inside while vehicles were parked behind it. The lot also provides access to the road that spirals up to Bly's Butte.

Known Members/Associations

  • The Samble congregation appears to include local residents such as Ganelial Crade, whose fetch was parked behind the ark and who conversed comfortably in Orth.
  • The movement is discussed by avout as part of the broader landscape of Deolaters outside the maths.

Recent Activity

While traveling avout passed through Samble, the counter-Bazian ark was holding an energetic service. Afterward, a communal picnic formed on the green, and visitors were welcomed to attend. Local cooperation included sharing space and, at times, vehicles for travel around the butte.

Summary:

A religious label applied to communities that define themselves in contrast to Bazian institutions. In Samble, a counter-Bazian ark holds energetic services followed by a communal picnic, and members stress reading scripture directly without clerical intermediaries.
