Donning Rig

The Donning Rig is a rolling support frame used to hold a rigid, matte-black space suit steady at the proper height while a wearer climbs in through the hinged back of the Head and Torso Unit. It enables safe, efficient donning and basic servicing of the suit during training and ground operations.

First Known Context

It is first described in use at the Caravansery of Elkhazg, where the team prepares for space operations. During a demonstration led by Jesry, Arsibalt enters a suit that is suspended from the rig.

Description and Features

  • Rolling frame that suspends the suit vertically for entry through the back hatch of the rigid torso unit.
  • Includes a strategically placed bar and step to help the wearer pull up and settle into the leg and arm segments.
  • Provides ground-service connections: a thick hose on the rig can be coupled to the suit to simulate vacuum for the suit’s sanitary elimination cycle during testing, with an audible pump drawing waste and air before warm-water rinse and air-dry functions complete the cycle.

Role in Current Events

  • Used during pre-mission training at Elkhazg alongside space suits, thruster controls, and other prepositioned equipment.
  • Supports familiarization with life-support functions and procedures needed for upcoming orbital operations and a planned rendezvous with a hostile craft.

Status

Actively in use at Elkhazg as part of the ground equipment supporting suit-up, servicing, and training.

Summary:
