Meadow

First Appearance and Context

Seen from a penance cell in the Warden Regulant’s court inside the Mynster at the Concent of Saunt Edhar, the meadow lies directly below the building where avout stroll at liberty during the day. From that outlook it lies roughly toward the Century Gate, with the Decade Gate visible off to the right. After the opening closed, avout took down the canopy and folded up the tables set there for communal use.

Roles/Actions and Affiliations

• Everyday green where avout walk and gather; during one period, a Provener team met for picnic lunches in the grass below the penance cells to show solidarity with a confined teammate.
• Informal observing ground: Fraa Fraa Orolo has been reported conducting naked‑eye sky observations there with a colleague.
• Access and circulation: The nearby Meadow Door provides a minor entrance on this side of the Mynster for those approaching from the field.

Relationships

• Part of the internal grounds of the concent, separating the Decenarian area from that of the Centenarians (Hundreders) as described in local usage.
• Overlooked by windows and walkways at the Warden Regulant’s level of the Mynster; long‑cycle gates (Century and Decade) can be seen from certain upper‑level viewpoints adjacent to it.

Descriptions/Characteristics

• Open, grassy field immediately below the Mynster’s walls and plinth.
• During the opening season, a lighted canopy and tables may be erected here for communal meals and then removed afterward.

Current Status/Location

An active internal green within the Concent of Saunt Edhar, routinely used for walking, informal gatherings, and occasional observation. It sits directly below the Mynster and is served by a minor entrance on its side.
