Unarians' nave

Unarians' nave is a large assembly nave within the Mynster (central clock‑temple) at the Concent of Saunt Tredegarh (walled monastic complex), associated with the Unarians. It is described as the only space at Tredegarh large enough to hold the entire avout body gathered for the Convox (rare avout convocation).

Context and first mentions

  • Avout at Tredegarh refer to Plenary (whole‑assembly session) announcements being held “in the nave of the Unarians,” described as the only place able to contain the full Convox. During such Plenaries, rules are relaxed and recordings may be shown to the assembly.
  • After the Visitation at Orithena, an all‑day Plenary assembled here, according to those present.

Role and usage

  • Primary venue for Convox‑wide announcements and addresses to all gathered maths and concents.
  • Used ceremonially at the close of Inbrase when hierarchs and newly enrolled peregrins process out of the chancel into this nave as the assembly dismisses.
  • Hosted a capacity Plenary featuring an extemporaneous, on‑stage dialog before the whole assembly; speech was amplified and a live image projected on a large screen so those in back could see and hear.
  • When needed, Sæcular crews and equipment operate alongside the avout assembly in this space.
  • At some Plenaries, Sæcular officials—including military personnel—have been present among the assembly.

Description and location

  • Sited within the Mynster complex that rises against The Precipice at Tredegarh; the chancel is separated from surrounding naves by screens, with Unarians’ nave lying beyond one such screen. From within the chancel, the murmur of the larger assembly in this nave can be heard when Plenary concludes and the crowd takes its leave.
  • The space is immense and richly appointed, on a scale to seat thousands, consistent with its use as the Convox’s principal gathering hall.
  • For a major Plenary, the area between the front pews and the chancel screen—normally kept clear—was temporarily filled with staging and audiovisual apparatus: a scaffolded platform raised above the floor, rigging, bright lighting towers, and a projection screen unfurled above the stage. Microphones were clipped to speakers’ bolts, and a live feed from within the nave was displayed for the crowd.
  • The back pews can be dark and spacious; during long assemblies some exhausted avout have stretched out full‑length there to rest.

Relationships and affiliations

  • Named for, and associated with, the Unarians as a community within the Mynster’s arrangement of naves.
  • Functions as the main assembly hall for the current Convox hosted by the Concent of Saunt Tredegarh.

Current status

  • In active use during the present Convox for whole‑assembly Plenary sessions, ceremonial processions, and staged addresses supported by projection and amplification.

Notes

  • The name points to a broader arrangement of multiple naves around the Mynster’s chancel; “Unarians’ nave” identifies the large hall attributed to the Unarians in local usage. Specific orientations or internal subdivisions are not detailed here.
