Suur Vay

Suur Vay is a member of the Valers, the cohort linked with Ringing Vale disciplines. She is present at the Concent of Saunt Tredegarh during the large gathering of avout and is identified among the Valers assigned to depart with a small evacuation cell.

Role and context

During the organized dispersal from Tredegarh, Vay takes a seat with a Valer cohort that includes Fraa Osa, Suur Esma, and Fraa Gratho. Before departure, the Valers pay formal respects to Fraa Jad. When Lio boards and assumes charge of the cell, the Valers acknowledge his lead.

Preparation at Elkhazg

After dispersal from Tredegarh, Vay travels with the cell to Elkhazg. During the flight and subsequent stay she studies space suit and mission materials alongside Fraa Jesry, trading documents and taking part in hands-on practice for individual suit‑and‑stage operations aimed at reaching the Daban Urnud. In briefings she emphasizes disciplined use of liquid oxygen and asks pointed questions about the life‑support "tender" that stores air and fuel and recycles carbon dioxide scrubbers. When Fraa Jad demonstrates a fresh Teglon tiling in the Decagon there, the Valers bow to him; Vay is among that cohort.

Orbital operations

  • During the cell’s initial consolidation in low orbit, Vay and Fraa Osa link multiple payloads into a single cluster sheltered behind a large balloon, hauling them in toward a growing complex.
  • Shortly thereafter she provides practical medical attention to Jules Verne Durand and monitors Fraa Jad until both stabilize.
  • As sorting and station‑keeping proceed, she joins group work to strap payloads together, maintain cover beneath the balloon, and support assembly tasks toward a reflective apparatus known as the Cold Black Mirror used while maneuvering toward the Daban Urnud.
  • When the group considers the implications of the swallowed core‑temperature devices used to monitor suit vitals, Vay notes two exceptions among her teammates: Fraa Jad declined to swallow his and Jules Verne Durand had vomited his, leaving their transponders loose inside their suits. As the cell physician, she had observed incorrect readings and suit responses for both and treated them after launch.

On‑hull movement and approach

As the cell closes with the vessel, the team ropes together and crosses rubble‑armored facets and shock‑piston trusses in darkness using magnetic boot‑soles and hand‑over‑hand traverses. Vay is last on the line during one such gap crossing while the group moves cautiously to avoid detection.

Boarding of the World Burner

When the illuminated World Burner complex comes into view—active with suited workers—the Ringing Vale Valers separate in an emergence. With Fraa Osa slightly ahead, Vay, Suur Esma, and Fraa Gratho go prone and use paired cold‑gas thrusters to glide low and fast across the rubble plane, each vectoring toward a different part of the complex to board covertly.

Shortly afterward, flaring light and a shudder reach the team’s position; Lio judges that propellant tanks at the complex were likely blown. A large response then surges through the nearest bearing as crews converge on that Tendon.

According to a later account relayed by Ala, Vay engaged a group of suited maintenance workers near the complex; one carried a plasma cutter. She and the attackers were killed. Her intervention enabled the other three Valers to reach a conference‑room window overlooking the device, from which their next moves unfolded.

Attributes and skills

Accounts credit Vay with steady fieldcraft and practical care under pressure; Erasmas recalls that she once stitched one of his wounds using fishing line after an earlier scrape in Mahsht. She also shows practical technical attentiveness during suit training, stressing careful management of consumables and clarifying how the tender replenishes oxygen and hydrogen and bakes out scrubbers.

Affiliations and relationships

  • Valers (Ringing Vale cohort)
  • Operationally aligned with the leaders coordinating Tredegarh’s evacuation; seen coordinating smoothly with Fraa Osa and acknowledging Lio’s authority in the cell.
  • Trains closely with Fraa Jesry during preparations at Elkhazg.
  • Provides field care to Jules Verne Durand and monitors Fraa Jad immediately after launch.

Current status

Killed in action during the covert boarding of the World Burner on the Daban Urnud; later reports credit her final action with enabling her fellow Valers to reach their objective.

Summary:

A Valer associated with the Ringing Vale, serving as the cell’s physician during the orbital mission. She helped cluster payloads and treated teammates after launch, and was later killed during the Valers’ boarding assault on the World Burner.
