Fthos

Not to be confused with Quators, the provisional label for one of the four visitor matter‑types; here “Fthos” refers to the origin world.

Not to be confused with Quator, the emblematic planet icon used to identify one Geometer contingent.

Fthos—called "Quator" on Arbre—is one of the four origin worlds associated with the visiting Geometers. On Arbre, this origin has been informally labeled the Quators, after an icon that appears to depict a world whose landmasses lie mostly at low latitudes.

The name “Fthos” entered local discourse when a Laterran envoy disclosed internal alignments among the four visiting peoples during protected discussion at Tredegarh. In that account, Urnud and Tro form an alliance known as the Pedestal and are hostile toward Fthos; Laterre is divided in its loyalties. Subsequent briefings add that the shipboard opposition movement, the Fulcrum, is led by Fthosians. A shipboard account further describes earlier wanderings that included Advents at Tro, Laterre, and Fthos before the current presence over Arbre; ship leadership characterizes the Pedestal–Fulcrum split as a longstanding tension within this voyaging tradition.

According to the same source, life aboard the Daban Urnud includes families and schooling, with children of Urnud, Tro, Laterre, and Fthos raised to compete for positions in the ship’s Command. Fthosians are one of the four communities represented within the Orbstack.

Additional shipboard details now described emphasize how the Orbstack is lived in: pressurized corridors link neighboring orbs; each sphere is partly filled with water so residents live on houseboats with gardens on the roofs; trunk lines of optical fibers pipe captured sunlight to those rooftop farms; and in zero‑gravity areas, frequent safety lockers hold respirators, fireproof suits, and extinguishers. During preparations for contact, interlocutors specifically sought cues for telling a Fthosian from a Tro, reinforcing that Fthosians are a recognizable community among the visitors.

Fthos is recognized within the four‑world presence orbiting Arbre. Beyond the political alignments and shipboard observations reported above, no confirmed details about Fthos’s geography, culture, or governance have been presented.

Presence on Arbre (observed)

  • At a public gathering at the Orolo site to mark the laying of a cornerstone and the start of a new institutional order, speakers explicitly named Fthos alongside Urnud, Tro, and Laterre when addressing the four cosmi now present on Arbre.
  • Observers at the same event noted Geometers of all four peoples—identified by their nose tubes—among the attendees, indicating that Fthosians were represented.
Summary:

Fthos—called "Quator" on Arbre—is one of the four origin worlds associated with the visiting Geometers. A Laterran source says Urnud and Tro (the Pedestal) are hostile toward Fthos, Laterre is divided, and Fthosians lead the shipboard opposition known as the Fulcrum.
