Orb Nine

Orb Nine is one of the sixteen rotating living spheres in the Orbstack aboard the Daban Urnud. It belongs to the Laterran stack and is inhabited by Laterrans.

First appearance and context

• Noted as part of the Laterran cluster when Arbran visitors recover in a Laterran hospital in a neighboring orb, where the portal apertures to Orbs Eleven and Nine are visible overhead in the painted “sky.”

Key relationships and affiliations

• Part of the Laterran stack (Orbs Nine–Twelve) within the Orbstack.
• Linked to Orb Ten by a sealable portal; adjacent orbs in a stack are connected “like cars on a passenger train.”
• Populated by Laterrans.

Important actions and context so far

• Observed as an active neighbor to Orb Ten; portals are kept open when maneuvering is not underway, allowing routine movement between the Laterran orbs.

Description and characteristics

• Shares the common orbstack design: rotation provides pseudogravity; each orb’s inner surface carries a combined water-and-“sky” environment. Portals “hang” in the firmament and are served by cable-chair systems linking down to houseboat communities and cultivated terraces.

Current status

• Functioning Laterran habitat sphere within the ship’s Laterran cluster; no specific events have been described inside Orb Nine yet.
