Troäns

The Troäns are the people of Tro, one of the visiting worlds traveling in company with Urnud as the Pedestal. They are among the four peoples whose communities inhabit the living spheres of the ship Daban Urnud in orbit near Arbre, alongside the peoples of Laterre and Fthos.

Not to be confused with Diasp (Tro) itself, the origin world from which Troäns come.

First noted context

Troäns are referenced during discussions about the visitors and their ship while preparations are underway to reach orbit. A Laterran informant identifies them as one of the peoples aboard the Daban Urnud and remarks on their long history of travel between Advents.

Relationships and affiliations

  • Origin: Tro.
  • Alliance: Aligned with Urnud as the Pedestal; reports from a Laterran source present the Pedestal as opposed to Fthos, with Laterre divided between sides.
  • Vessel: Part of the community living aboard Daban Urnud.

Aboard the Daban Urnud (observed arrangement)

  • Within the sixteen‑orb Orbstack, four connected orbs are assigned to each origin people; for Troäns these are Orbs 5–8.
  • High‑ranking Troäns are housed in Orb 5. By convention across the ship, the lowest‑numbered orb in each four‑orb stack (1, 5, 9, 13) is reserved for the highest‑ranking members of their respective peoples at the forward nexus where those shafts meet the Core.

Advents and dispersals (reported)

  • Accounts from a senior officer aboard the Daban Urnud state that at some Advents groups choose to remain behind when the vessel departs. In that telling, Troäns were left on Laterre (Earth) during an earlier departure and have found ways to live in a cosmos not their own. This is presented as the officer’s account.

Society and disposition (as reported)

  • A Laterran observer (see Jules Verne Durand) suggests that the Urnudans—and later the Troäns—wandered for a long time between Advents, which may contribute to a tense or touchy outlook. This is presented as an interpretation from within the visitors’ own communities.
  • Aboard the Daban Urnud, life is divided among sixteen linked living spheres (the Orbstack). Accounts describe four spheres allocated to each people, with some mixing between neighbors when not under acceleration. The ship’s total population is commonly referred to as “the Forty Thousand,” roughly a quarter from each people.
  • Additional shipboard details describe pressurized corridors linking the living spheres; Urnudans, Troäns, Laterrans, and Fthosians use these passages to move between orbs. Briefings shared by a Laterran source also include practical cues for distinguishing among the four peoples (for example, identifying a Fthosian versus a Troän), though specifics are not recorded in local accounts.

Observed roles and conduct aboard the ship

  • Security escorts: A squad of five Troän soldiers—wearing nose tubes—escorted Arbran delegates between neighboring orbs and on the blindfolded ladder climb toward the Core. Their kit favored non‑lethal tools (batons, aerosol sprayers, and electrical shock devices), consistent with caution about puncturing pressurized spaces.
  • Safety and protocol: Troän personnel enforced careful pacing and spacing during vertical transits, controlling flows at ladder heads. One soldier provided hands‑on guidance in microgravity to help visitors center themselves in the Core and null out spin.
  • Recognition and demeanor: The escort had clearly been briefed on the visitors and paid particular attention to those linked with the Valers’ reputation. Professional and restrained, they reacted with muted amusement to zero‑gravity mishaps while keeping order.

Ceremonial presence and honors

  • At a meeting pool in an Urnudan residential orb, processions of Urnudan and Troän dignitaries moved from their pavilions to the water for opening ceremonies. Troän soldiers formed part of the mixed honor guard working alongside Urnudans, Laterrans, and Fthosians.
  • Translators operated from mezzanines above the pavilions, and stewards coordinated the rites. The proceedings included slow transfers of coffins across the water followed by addresses and the signing of accords on a barge mid‑pool.
  • On Arbre, Troän delegates were present among a mixed gathering at the island site dedicated to Saunt Orolo for the laying of a cornerstone that marked the beginning of the Second Reconstitution; they were named alongside Urnudans, Laterrans, and Fthosians when a senior avout addressed the assembly.

Current status

Troäns are currently associated with the Daban Urnud near Arbre, participating in the shipboard society and governance described by visitors. Their community occupies the Troän stack of orbs (5–8), with senior figures in Orb 5. Troän representatives have also been seen on the surface at the island site dedicated to Saunt Orolo during early ceremonies marking the beginning of the Second Reconstitution.

Summary:

People from Tro, one of the visiting worlds associated with Urnud as the Pedestal. Within the Daban Urnud’s Orbstack they occupy orbs 5–8, with high‑ranking Troäns in Orb 5.
